Yuyang Du
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Information Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In 2025, I received my Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from the same institution, where I was supervised by Prof. Soung Chang Liew. In 2019, I received my bachelor's degree from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Peking University (PKU), under the supervision of Prof. Yiming Lei.
I develop intelligent mobile systems, with applications in industrial automation and smart healthcare. Communication and computation form the foundation of my systems. My recent work addresses two key challenges: 1) cost-effective generative AI for resource-constrained edge devices, and 2) reliable, low-latency communication for real-time mobile applications. My toolkit for building such systems includes efficient LLM serving, task-oriented communication, signal processing, network optimization, and robotics.

*Openings!* I will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU-ECE) as a Research Assistant Professor in 2027 Spring. Our team has multiple openings for postdocs, research assistants, and visiting students in the following directions: 1) AI-powered wireless networking, 2) cost-effective LLM serving at the edge, 3) generative semantic communication, and 4) SDR-driven URLLC systems. Beyond Research [Gallery Coming Soon]
- Cycling: I am an avid cyclist with a passion for both competitive racing and long-distance adventures. I proudly raced for Team PKU during my undergraduate years (2015-2019). Even with a busy academic schedule after graduation, I stick to my daily training and currently maintain a power-to-weight ratio of 3.25 w/kg (tested on August 1, 2026). In the summer of 2016, I completed an epic bike tour to Mohe, the northernmost point of China, setting off from the vast Hulunbuir grasslands in Inner Mongolia and traversing the dense forests of the Greater Khingan Mountains.
- Trekking: I enjoy wilderness hiking and connecting with nature. My journey has woven through the vast, high-altitude realms of GarzĂȘ, the pristine alpine wilderness of Ngawa, and the unforgiving, rugged extremes of the BingChaCha passage from Yunnan to Tibet. I consider myself an incredibly lucky guy favored by the mountains: I was fortunate enough to catch the cloudless views of Kawagarbo (along the Bingchacha route), Minya Konka (in GarzĂȘ), and Yaomei Peak (in Ngawa). All of these peaks are notoriously elusive, and witnessing even a single one of them is considered a true blessing in Tibetan culture!
- Mountaineering: Starting from May 2026, I have become fascinated by high-altitude snow mountain climbing. I successfully summited Mt. Siguniang (Dafeng, 5025m) on June 29, and Mt. Gangshika (Peak 3, 5005m) shortly after on August 15. Currently, I am learning ice climbing and glacier travel techniques to prepare myself for higher altitudes, with my sights set on summiting Muztagh Ata (7546m) within the next five years.
- Alpine Skiing: Winter sports are another major passion of mine. I have been skiing across various regions, leaving my tracks in Chongli (Spring 2023), Koktokay (Winter 2023), and Pats Peak in New Hampshire (Winter 2024).
